Lukas Johannes Aigner

Experience Becomes Image

The artistic work of Lukas Johannes Aigner is primarily focused on the human figure. The environment in which his figures move serves as a mirror of inner emotional states. Through spatial atmosphere, psychological processes become visible without being fully revealed. Much remains hidden, yet is still present.

His characteristic chiaroscuro technique captures a light that casts strong shadows. The resulting contrast creates a field of tension, while the intermediate color nuances form soft transitions. This color scheme follows a unique system developed through intensive theoretical engagement and attentive observation. Like a director, the artist deliberately guides the viewer’s gaze toward the essential elements of the composition.

Often, the expression of a figure becomes the central focus of the painting. The direct gaze of the depicted subjects challenges an interaction with the observer, creating a silent dialogue.

Melancholic moods define many of his works. Recurring themes include scenes such as holding an oversized amaryllis, a dying bird in its final breath, a disrupted secret gathering, or a painterly reflection on the creative process itself. Nature also plays a significant role—not least as a symbol of lost security.

Lukas J. Aigner’s painting is not a mere depiction of a supposed reality but creates its own. His artistic intent is to express the inexpressible, assign meaning to chance, and turn creative thinking into a form of catharsis.

GLOWING BLOOM

Lukas Johannes Aigner is currently undergoing a process of artistic transformation and development. He places his stylistic elements, color palette, and subjects into discourse with himself. The floral motifs, the characteristic brushwork, and the vibrant expressiveness of his painting remain. The openness to the new and the persistence of the already created exist in artistic tension. The nature depicted in his unique visual language reveals itself in its processual nature.

"If one wants to achieve the maximum vitality in art, it is advisable to remain in motion oneself. Questioning oneself and exploring new boundaries, reinventing oneself (...) is part of the artistic journey."
